Developing Halal Literacy Among Teachers and Students: A Review of Educational Strategies and Outcomes
Keywords:
Halal literacy, Teacher education, Student awarenessAbstract
This review synthesizes educational strategies designed to strengthen teachers’ and students’ understanding and application of halal principles in schools and universities. The objective is to identify approaches that effectively cultivate halal awareness and to outline a broader framework for halal literacy development. Prior studies indicate that embedding halal literacy within the curriculum shapes attitudes and behaviors toward halal practices. For example, the application of social cognitive theory has been shown to influence consumer behavior toward halal products, suggesting that education-oriented strategies can increase adherence to Islamic principles. Evidence from several studies also links halal literacy with purchasing intentions, where greater knowledge of halal principles enhances consumer trust and satisfaction. An integrative review highlights diverse instructional methods, including the inclusion of halal principles in business and marketing courses, which fosters comprehensive understanding among learners. Additionally, prior work on halal certification processes underscores the need for structured educational frameworks to support effective knowledge transmission. Overall, the synthesis affirms the central role of educational institutions in promoting halal literacy. By attending to pedagogical strategies and learning outcomes, this review provides a foundation for developing a robust academic framework to enhance halal awareness across educational levels.References
