The Role of Higher Education in Promoting Halal Knowledge and Values: A Systematic Review
Keywords:
Higher education, Halal knowledge, Value-based learning.Abstract
The systematic review examined the role of higher education in promoting halal knowledge and values, emphasizing how universities contribute to research, teaching, and community service within this framework. It was observed that higher education institutions play a crucial role in the advancement of halal studies by integrating principles of halal into their curricula, thereby enhancing the knowledge base among students and practitioners. The review covered an extensive range of literature up to 2024, focusing on educational policies and frameworks that foster halal-related education. The findings underscored the necessity of implementing halal education as part of the tri dharma (three responsibilities: education, research, and community service) mandated by many universities. Furthermore, the study identified the impact of halal knowledge dissemination on student perceptions and market preparedness, noting that students equipped with halal knowledge demonstrated a higher degree of awareness and competence in halal practices. Another significant contributor discussed in the literature was the integration of halal values and certifications into vocational training, preparing students for careers in halal sectors, including tourism and gastronomy. By adopting a systematic review methodology, the analysis revealed a gap in the incorporation of practical halal applications in existing programs. The need for a structured approach to enhance educational offerings related to halal knowledge was clearly articulated, proposing that universities can act as pivotal platforms for promoting trust, understanding, and consumer confidence in halal markets. Overall, the review highlighted a clear pathway for integrating halal principles into higher education, thereby ensuring a well-educated workforce ready to engage with the growing global halal market.References
